You can set up your do not disturb to accept calls from your favorites. You won’t miss a call from your college child if that’s what you’re worried about.

High school buses come very early. They waited as late as they could while still giving people notice.

We have our cell phones on do not disturb but we received a call on our home phone which has never happened with MCPS for a delay or closing. While the attendance office calls our home phone for absences, snow day info has always come by email. I need to figure out how to change the notification settings.

OP, this is on you, not on MCPS. If you want to complain, complain about your own self. And then fix the problem for your own self.

-person who also has a landline, that can't be turned off due to elderly parents, that also rang at 5:40 am

I do think the phone call thing is new this year, and disruptive. I have no landline and my cell was on DND. But I would have been irritated if a landline rang.
For the poster with college student, you can put contacts in favorites that ring through even if you have DND for everyone else.

Yeah, actually, they do need Remind. Because some people only use that.

You are responsible for your notification settings. Having a kid in college isn't a special YOU problem. Figure it out. Best of luck!

Blocking the number they called from means you won’t get other critical notifications or direct calls, assuming this is the school’s main number. This is highly irresponsible to do as a parent.

How do I change my settings?

My cell is on DND, but my landline also rang and I don’t want to turn off that ringer just in case MCPS calls.
