Same. He had just turned 1 and had a broken leg from when I fell down the stairs while holding him on my hip.

The police called back right away and said someone would have to come by to check things because there were children in the house.

When the officer showed up, my son came walking over with his peg leg (his foot up to his thigh in a cast) and just stood there saying hi, waving and grinning hugely at the officer.

I explained his leg.

I said I could show them on the phones redial feature all the numbers my son had pressed, but they said it was fine and left.

I call 911 at least once per year. Usually for a crazy homeless person, but also to report really erratic and possibly drunk driving. I've also called 911 when I saw individuals committing crimes (trying to break into cars, random assaults/fights, etc.)

Seriously? I dialed 911 by mistake once and hung up before anyone picked up. A dispatcher called me back the next instant to ask what was going on.

You should look up Statter911 on X. DC's 911 has serious understaffing problems, and other problems with the folks who do work there. I don't doubt this for a second.

DC is notorious. I lived in DC when a little girl choked to death due to an inept 911 response.

We felt a little unsure about leaving DC for the suburbs, but these kinds of public safety news stories helped convince us to leave.

You should google it. DC 911 is a massive shitshow. Their rate for people hanging up because they spend so long on hold is VERY high. We just had an incident in our neighborhood that prompted a 911 call, and in the neighborhood forum people were posting about recent calls to DC 911 and how long it took them to answer (5 minutes, 8 minutes, 10 minutes - getting hung up on - etc.). It's very scary.

I made a 911 call in Takoma Park MD at about 2 in the afternoon on a weekday in October and it took more than 2 minutes for a live human to be on the line. No planes had crashed anywhere.

Same thing for me but on a Friday. The wait time is unacceptable. My sister is a paramedic and when I told her she said hmthere are many situations where that could be the difference between life and death. We need a leadership overhaul in the next election.
