Yep, it goes back to the days of the Mayflower and Deacon Chapin and all that jazz. And those direct descendants who moved slightly west to Michigan and Ohio took that mindset with them. You can see the NE WASP frugal mentality alive and well with its cousins in Grosse Pointe Farms.

So sweet that the previous poster asked whether you work for a non-profit. There are tons of people at non-profits who come from family money and/or have high-income spouses. That's why they can afford to work for non-profits and why non-profits can pay so poorly.
