And how would the world perceive him? And why would it matter what others think?

Good thing it would be your child’s life and not yours!

My brother, who is a carpenter made so much money. He made so much more than my brothers who are lawyers. He used to give them cash loans when they needed to front certain cases.

He also gave them both cash loans, 0% interest to buy into their partnership.

Lots of trade schools are harder than people think.

My son is gifted and works really hard so I think he could take a trade and make it into a very successful business if he wanted to. His current plan is to go into engineering, but I could see that taking a mechanical turn.

College is not for everyone at all!

And, no they can’t be anything they want! Many end up sitting in an office at a random job.

I want my son to go to college mainly because of how the world will perceive him, and I want him to have all the options he can possibly have.

That said, my DH didn’t go to college, and I have tremendous respect for talented tradespeople, so if DS opted for that route I would support him.

Anonymous wrote:It depends on their abilities. If they are a top student, high test scores, etc. and can get into a great college, I’d be disappointed.

If they are a mediocre student, I’d fully support trade school.

It isn’t that one path is better than the other, but I would want my child to find a path that suits their abilities and talents. Yes the world needs great plumbers and welders, but it needs great doctors and computer programmers too

I'd be happy either way. A lot of brilliant high achieving people don't figure out until really late in life that they are deeply unhappy. Friend went to HYP and just hated her life. Now she's middle aged and finally happy as an exercise instructor and mom. There are so many stories like this.

Originally, I will admit that I had concerns about my son attending trade school. He is now 22, just started his own s-corp and will make 130,000 this year. He does not even do what he went to trade school for (HVAC). He does tile and remodeling and is booked out until next February. Loves it and would have never been able to sit at a desk. I’m super proud!

One of my kids is motor-challenged, but very intellectual. So he can't do otherwise than go to university. He'd be terrible in a trade!
