Saw the movie witch a 12 yo who is a history buff. Sex was not an issue - it’s all brief and clothed and also framed as primarily reproductive in purpose. The move has faults but is much better than people give it credit for.

The move should be called Josephine as more about her.

Also where was the Ice Cream?

Napoleon Ice Cream was his greatest invention,

We don’t allow our 14 year old to see any R movies.

I wouldnt bring a 14 year old to see it.

However it was an awful movie so I actually wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!

There isn’t any nudity at all. I don’t even think Napoleon is shown topless.

One scene that’s vivid in my memory involved Josephine being bent over with Napoleon standing behind her and trusting vigorously while making these horrible grunting noises

Actually the majority of the cringe in the sex scenes if from weird noises Napoleon makes. One is like he is imitating how a fish sucks it’s mouth and makes suction noises .

- as if people do that it real life!

Agree.

Porn is demeaning to women.

I didn't love Oppenheimer, but at least it was compelling. Napoleon was boring and laugh-out-loud stupid at times (there's a hilariously awful line about destiny & pork chops.)

I would not want my teen to see either of those.

Why do they feel the need to put porn in otherwise worthwhile movies?

No! Doggie style banging with clothing on. Lots of violence, but we don’t care about that.

I love Oppenheimer, but did not bring my 13 year old to watch the entirely gratuitous sex scenes of that movie.
I think if you love well-managed scenes of war, you might like the new Napoleon movie, but really, that's it. It's all that Ridley Scott does well here, apparently.

Gratuitous? In Oppenheimer? You're awfully prudish for a French woman if that's how you view breasts.

The sexual proclivities of Napoleon and Josephine Bonaparte are the stuff of legend.

I think a history of Napoleon that doesn’t recount one of his greatest driving obsessions would be a failure.

Maybe prudes just need to lighten up and accept that human primates generally like to have sex when a pleasant opportunity arises so of course their art is going to reflect that innate drive.

Maybe they should instead decide what is right for their kids. My 14 didn't get to see R movies. Napoleon is a R. And the sex scenes are indeed stupidly crude

The sex scenes are crude - and totally unnecessary to the movie. OP you shouldn't take your 14 year old. I went with my 29 year old and was embarrassed by how bad it all was.

Commonsense Media says that there are no graphic sex scenes. This is a deal breaker for me.

That's the review on Common Sense Media. It includes a parents' guide to the movie. It says 16-plus.
