Game of Thrones!
Ted Lasso
And for a guilty pleasure, the first season of Bridgerton.

Just watch Offspring (on Hulu) there's six seasons so that should take awhile.

Well, and of course Ted Lasso.

TV has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Some of these answers would be kind of a shock, I think, to someone who hadn’t watched any TV since 2013 … I mean, there are things from Tiger King I wish I could unsee so I can’t imagine jumping in with that one.

I like the Only Murders in the Building suggestion (Hulu) because you like mysteries and it has great dialogue, setting, and characters. I’d also recommend Three Pines (Prime) based on Louise Penny’s Gamache books. It’s darker but thoughtful and cerebral, and the main character is wonderful.

This year we did some renovations and made a space for a second TV on the main floor, so now I have a chance to catch up! What did I miss? I'd appreciate any recommendations. I mainly like historical fiction, mysteries, but open to anything that isn't too heavy.

You didn’t even watch anything on an iPad? Like from a streaming service?

No news?

No sports?

Nothing streaming - I don’t like tablets. I’ve been listening to audio books and podcasts exclusively. I don’t follow sports, and while I’m a news junky, I get all that from written media. So, I’m trying to get back up to speed.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I’ve googled a bunch of them and have a solid list of things I want to watch now. Incidentally, this happened to me in the 90’s too when I was too poor to pay for cable. I get out of the habit of watching and then suddenly years have past.

I get it, I haven't ever watched a show on my phone either.

I loved the first few seasons of Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley was good, Veep, and first few seasons of Newsroom. People like Outlander but I haven't seen it, only read the books.

Another vote for Downton Abbey (not quite historical fiction but close enough) and maybe The Crown?

OP said nothing too heavy but several posters have recommended Game of Thrones. I haven't watched it because it seemed too heavy and violent for me. Is that not the case?

Honestly I think The Wire and Frasier (very different so it depends on the mood) are still the best, and they are older than 10 years.
Well, maybe Babylon Berlin.

No!

There’s so much BETTER stuff out there before you resort to this.

I think the main fact you missed is that you can now stream any TV on your laptop and don’t really need a tv set (or screen?) to catch up!
