I guess education, employment, income, mental health and moral character should've more value than looks for marriage to lower percentage of bad or failed relationships. No?

I dont think men are burdened by ideas of what is realistic for them, so they just fantasize about women who would never glance twice at them anyway, no matter how much younger.
But when those barriers are removed many women fantasize about the younger guys. Like almost all the girls on TikTok are obsessed with young, twinky looking guys with flobby hair and protruding hipbones and babyfaces.
I don't fantasize about 21 year olds because as I get older, that's closer and closer to my kids' ages. Gross! To me that is not someone who can be my peer (outside of work I guess?) or lover.
Yeah because that's important to women in a way it's not to men. But when those kinds of boundaries are removed (considerations of "OMG, I'm too old!") then they often have similar preferences to men. They love the young, healthy, fit, baby faced look, which is universally attractive.

I actually completely agree with you OP. I more often see stunningly attractive men with women I would consider moderately attractive or kind of slightly above average, rather than with a truly stunning woman. And I often notice extremely stunning women are more likely to be single than coupled up.
I think that because men are attracted to a much wider sphere of women than men are, that super attractive men often get "hunted down" by an averagely attractive woman that is willing to do anything for them. And I think men, being ego driven, often enjoy feeling that "upper hand" in the relationship anyway. So even though they *could* work harder and pursue that 9 0r 10, genuinely beautiful woman, theyre perfectly content with their 5,6,7 level woman who is going to work night and day to make them happy.
That's my theory at least.

Hard disagree. Men can lose weight more easily/quickly due to greater muscle mass on average than woman. Also, men can be overweight and still look sharp with a nice pair of jeans and sports jacket, or a nice suit. It is possible for women but much harder especially if they don’t have an hourglass figure

Just what I was going to say. The problem is that people who are trying to argue against that craziness often say that looks don't matter, that weight doesn't matter for women, that height and income doesn't matter for men. Of course those things matter, but they matter way less than people like this think. Kindness, humor, and all that cliched stuff dominates. There needs to be physical attraction, sure, but by definition, the vast majority of us happily coupled people are average looking.
