Nobody who has any heart, sense or a brain is gonna dislike Venice. Seriously. The best place for a kid is Venice. Amalfi works if you've got a bit of $. Because it's about being in the water there - get on a boat and cruise - it's amazing.

Rome is fine but it's just another big city. Sicily and Puglia are nice resort beach destinations. It somewhat depends on if your kids are into water, history, shopping, art/museums but on the whole Venice is prettt much can't miss.

I thought this was a typo but I guess that’s one reason to recommend Italy for your kids?

My uber picky kid who hates every place LOVES LOVES LOVES Italy. She would like to relo there forever LOL

Esp Amalfi - Positano because we did a great boat ride, stayed in a posh hotel with swimming pool. The food is amazing. Gelato, slushies, pasta, pizza - just for the food it doesn't matter where you go in Italy!

Agree they loved Venice as well - ages 11 and 13 over summer. Rome was less great but it was fine - major city and all, like all cities. History is great but honestly, the crowds were gross. I think that if we go back, would like to check out Sicily. But also there's a couple amazing islands off coast as well.

I think for us because our kids are older, the history, water and food are generally more indulged upon. With the younger set, def look at Rome - a ton of activities there and Venice as well even for kids 7-12 or so.

Rome and Venice blew them away, Florence not so much. Those are the only places we visited with our kids but we are a huge fan of Italy. It’s our most oft visited country.

My kids also really liked Cinque Terre and the hikes between the towns. With taking train back.

We liked Genoa—the old city near the port has tiny streets and no/very few cars so we walked around a lot and did a food tour everyone liked. I’ve seen different reports about safety near the port but we frequently walked back to our Airbnb after late dinners and never had a problem. There’s also a series of elevators/streetcars you can take up to higher elevations of the city for walks with beautiful ocean views. You can take the train to Cinque Terre, Portofino, San Remo etc.

Sicily! Took my then 9-year-old DD and y-year-old DS for 10 days. Stayed in Siracusa and Taormina - walked all over the towns, went swimming off those platforms, saw the Greek ruins, ate lots of good seafood, did a tour of Mt. Etna, did one of those small beach clubs for a day. Great or kids that age.

My 3.5 year old loved running around Rome looking for the King. At 5 we got to go back to Verona, Venice and Rovinj. It was magical. We were just talking about it the other day. Venice and Rovinj being the most memorable.
