Are you saying you can buy Canadian citizenship for $75 a person?? And get your kids the almost free college tuition?? Seems too good to be true.

lol, no, that’s the processing fee for the certificate of citizenship. I have the citizenship through my parents same as I assume OP has her Italian citizenship.

I think most people on this thread have a claim to the citizenship via the country’s ancestry laws and the money is spent on gathering/submitting the the documentation of it. It’s not like $ in citizenship out for anyone.

I'm at 15K and counting so far for my green card, OP

I think multiple citizenships that open up the ability to work on multiple continents is worth A LOT of money. My cousins have 3 passports and can work in Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, Peru), US and EU.

Do you have relatives there? My grandparents were born there and my mother lived there. I wanted to get citizenship but not sure how to. Nova Scotia is so beautiful.

If your mother was born in Canada you get automatic citizenship through her — just apply for a Certificate of Citizenship with all the appropriate documentation (and wait about a year for them to process it). The expat citizenship only goes one generation though so if your mom was born outside of Canada it gets harder; I don’t think two native born grandparents cut it any more unfortunately.

I was quoted more than $15,000 (legal fees, gathering documents, translating etc…) for a family of 3 (spouse not included in this). Seems high, but not necessarily a deal breaker.

I know this decision is very personal depending on life goals…but where would you draw the line at financing dual citizenship? Appreciate your thoughts/considerations.

I'm curious as to what is the draw/advantage in doing this? Particularly since it appears to be involved/complicated and/or expensive...

NP here. My young adult kid's motivation is to be able to obtain employment at an EU institution (basically as an American). They have rather specific career goals and a stint at this institution would be amazing for them.

Don't you have to live there first?

The citizenship is inherited. Much like OP’s.

Waste of money and zero reason in your case. Zero.

NP here. I’m considering this too. I would need to pay someone to help. Could a omeone recommend their lawyer? If it matters, my options are Poland or Germany.

I am pursuing EU citizenship (parents born abroad) but it is about half that. I would still do it for more. I feel like options are good to have in this world.

I have British /US dual citizenship. I wouldn’t pay 5k for my American DD to get British citizenship because I don’t see a financial advantage. If she wants to go to school there cos will be the same because I pay US taxes not British.
I guess it depends on your income, whether it’s worth it or not, for me it wouldn’t be.
