Sounds like you are the company and your friend would be left in the lurch without you. Negotiate for what you need.

This was my first thought. OP it sounds like you have a ton of practical skills that you developed throughout your career, but you may not have had much experience in polishing a more "professional" presentation. And I say that with air quotes because I think it's a lot of BS and fake smiles, but it's how the game is played. It might be worth paying to have your resume professionally edited, and I agree 100% that you need to tailor it to the job you are applying for.

Also your school/preschool should have before and after care, and you should be getting some child support. Outsource the childcare flexibility issue so you can focus on stabilizing your career. Do not under any circumstances mention it during the hiring process.

If I were you, then I would go back to the beginning. My childhood, how my parents were toward me. Did you have the type of parent who never let you sit and relax? Why aren't you doing anything? Just one example of a parent who ends up with adult children who never feel like enough, like they're never good enough, very self critical, never able to relax, or stop, or be happy with what they have done in life. They can also project their angst toward their parents on to their spouses, and they don't even realize they are doing it.

Yes you are being shafted by “friend” and should at least negotiate salary and health insurance befor throwing in the towel. Have you discussed this at all?

Secondly you could go to a competitor or better yet build your own business but I get that’s a risk as a single parent.

Third have you looked at HR positions? What about corporate management in a place like bright horizons etc? Don’t apply blindly either. Use the network you built. Write emails to your clients, partner providers, etc. LinkedIn like crazy.
