We received one as well. It feels like a soft letdown, but I don’t know why they would bother. I’m sure it means nothing. I’m sorry people are so rude on this post.

We got the letter as well. I didn't think it meant anything, but I thought it was a nice gesture. BTW, DC doesn't stand a chance of getting in UNC.

That’s interesting, in a FB group I’m in, the prevailing wisdom is to let the student contact Admissions and drive the process.

Legacies also get a version of this letter, at least last year they did. The letter was no indication of the outcome btw.

Got one too. DS is OOS. I thought the letter itself was a positive sign but agree that the language is odd and may mean this won’t end well. I don’t know why UNC feels the need to let me down easy. I can take it, UNC, let it on me!

Probably everyone got one, but I get your curiosity too. Sounded a bit like they are trying to let you down easy in advance.

+1. It is a parent letter to set the inevitable stage. OOS is a hard get at Chapel.

OP - legit question and best of luck to your child!

An in state PP got one too. When I got home and read it it doesn’t sound as much as a let down letter as I thought it would. I’m starting to think it was just a bit of southern hospitality and charm.

How is this hard to understand?

if you are concerned about the message, call them and tell them.

How is it hard to read a post and walk away rather than replying with something rude and snarky? Be kind.

I think supporting materials for UNC aren’t even due until December. Given that they probably don’t even have scores/rec letters for everyone, I’m going to guess/hope it went out to all who applied. 🤞🏻

We got the same letter and we are in-state.

My thought too. It’s North Carolina, not the DMV 😀

Probably just to demonstrate some old fashioned courtesy. Also, some parents may not know where kids are applying.

Well isn’t that southern!

PP. That was my thought!
