That’s just pure laziness on the part of the company or the admins coordinating the event. There were only 40 of you? We’ve done groups smaller and much much larger. If it is clothing, we get everyone’s size up front. If we’re too lazy to do that, we get everyone a backpack, a mug or something generic. And if there was an order snafu, we would have arranged QR codes that could be redeemed for those individuals to purchase what they want from the company store or whatever chachki shop. I would say something to the organizers OP. Not cool.

Very weird and whoever placed the order is insensitive/ignorant, almost laughably so if they think that is a size range that will suit everyone. So yes, it’s weird and having such nice jackets in the wrong size is wasteful and irritating. I would personally not be super bothered over it but I would say something on behalf of others who might feel excluded since I don’t mind speaking up.

That sucks but on the other hand I'm fat and I would much rather get the wrong size in a gift bag than have to disclose my size or ask them to order special. I would just pretend it never happened and hope they never ask us to wear them.

That's a very random sizing mixture to select for employees.

We usually order men's large, xl, & xxl and women's medium, xl, & xxl when we take shirts to conferences to hand out. We will sometimes toss in ~20 smalls and another 10 3xl shirts. And that's what we do for complete strangers.

Why wouldn't you get your actual employee sizes?! Heck, most marketing people can guess sizes pretty well.

We have a few employees who need a 4xl in shirts. When we order swag, if the item picked doesn't go up to a 4xl, we pick an item as close as possible and get a 4xl in it or switch everyone to a product with inclusive sizing.

Guessing when it's only 40 people isn't going to work. It's not like using the bell curve for 200+ employees! Could have been so simple to be inclusive, but to leave out more than 10% of the people? Lazy.

I don't think this is an instance of bulk orders. I'm not sure Patagonia even does bulk orders. For such a small order, someone should have requested sizes, or ordered extras in ALL sizes to cover their bases.

If they are small company, they are probably not going to order extra of anything.

I used to have to order these types of things at a company I worked for and typically there are quotas for ordering so you would order 1-50 units for a 40 person company. They were estimating what most people would wear. I would recommend that the 5 of you that were left out go back and request your sizes be ordered. However, if it's something you probably won't wear, go ahead and take a size that you can regift to someone you know.

Weird and not well thought out.

It was a swag bag, so everything was pre-packaged? Were the bags labeled by jacket size and the expectation was you'd pick one that should fit?

If you want the properly sized jacket I'm sure they'd get you one.

This is a lawsuit if it's a fat lady that got excluded and a huge laugh if it's a little man that got excluded.
