Only tried it once-Simply Desserts cake shop on Chantilly. Allegedly worth $36 and got 8 bite size weird cheesecake but not cheesecake bite size pastries and two weird brownie sized pastries filled with purple goo. Gross and a ripoff.

I tried it in MOCO and did Sunday Morning Bakehouse at Pike and Rose and they put together a nice bag. But I probably won't do it again, I am not a big croissant lover and it's not worth it for me to get there at a certain time, I usually can't do that. Also MOCO does not have a big restaurant selection.

A friend does it in NYC and gets good stuff, lots of places with really good bagels.

I think a big thing is to only go for bags over 4.2 stars.

There is a Reddit page dedicated to Too Good To Go and it's fun seeing what people get in their bags.

Bakeries are usually the best deals and they tend to close relatively early. Win-win!

Ha, I agree. The value is not what it claims. I’ve noticed my Cava bowls are smaller than what I would put to.

Bakeries are sometimes a good deal, and pizza can be a good deal.

My Cava bowl is half of what I put together myself and pay full price.

I hate Cava because you can only get one bowl. It’s too much effort to go out at 9:45 pm for just one bowl. Not worth the effort.

My experience is that the pick up windows are too late in the evening. I'm not out and about at 9pm when a lot of the pickups are in suburbia.

Bad advertising gimmick. The problem is that restaurants don't want to undercut demand for their product.

They give leftovers to their staff.

I use it for some food, if you are able to go to Moby-Dick- Fairfax Town center they will give you a full meal. The reason they are sold out first thing they put it out. Most of the other food is hit or miss. I got Ritas the other day medium gave me 2 paints of Ice cream.

It worth it every now and then.

Places like Cava and Rasa offer 5 bowls each day. When I pick up, there is soooo much food left. How is this helping with food waste? I understand bakeries, but not some of these other places.

I like the concept... reducing waste, surprises that might lead to me trying/getting something I normally wouldn't, low costs. But there aren't ask many places in my neighborhood as I would like, and with the off hour pick up times, I can't really go to far afield.

I've only done it a handful of times, and I'd say 4/5 were a good deal that I was happy enough with.

I use it in Bethesda and NW DC and have used it since it went live in this area (a few years, maybe?) I’d say you have to be willing to experiment - some bags are so popular they always sell out whereas others can be disappointing. All in all I like it, especially for random sweet treats for my kids.
