Yes, your retirement date resets if you take certain types of leave. Between maternity leave and long term medical leaves, mine has reset 4x. Mine is in March a decade from now.
I also used to think I would never retire during the school year, but unless something dramatically improves, I plan to do so rather than suffer extra months with no meaningful benefit to me.
