OP here - I'm in Chevy Chase but I am willing to drive basically anywhere!

Also in Chevy Chase. I haven’t tasted these but I trust Bread Furst, Sunday Morning Bakehouse and Call Your Mother. That said, I personally think baking one is really easy. I recommend you chop up some or all of the pecans to put in rather than leaving them all whole. I also think the pecan pies at Trader Joe’s are actually totally good. Enjoy!

Fill the pie as normal, then layer whole pecans on top.

You may also choose to reserve a cup of the whole pecans to lightly place on the top of the filling just before the pie goes into the oven

I actually prefer only chopped pecans. Arranging whole pecans on top is a hassle, and then the slices don't cut perfectly when you try to cut through a whole pecan.
