Also, OP, I do think there was a moment when owning your sexuality by being overtly sexual was considered a feminist act, and women were encouraged to do it. I don’t think that’s the case anymore. Nobody sees cardi B’s music or music videos as some big feminist statement. She can be a feminist without making her work about feminism.
I also don’t think she is being harmful. Many men do not like her style. They don’t like long nails, fake body parts, overt sexuality, outspokenness, etc. She isn’t completely catering to the male gaze. I actually think that more palatable women like, well, Carrie underwood might cater to the male gaze even more.
By the way I do like Carrie underwood, even though she has promoted terrible revenge strategies.
