I feel the opposite: I don't understand how people can intrude on their neighbors by playing loud music, letting the dogs bark, running the mower early Sunday morning. It's so rude and unnecessary. I try to be a considerate neighbor so everybody can enjoy their home.
I am pro chicken, though.

If it's illegal, so be it. But, I seriously do not understand why people feel entitled to have no noise they don't like coming from their neighbors.

Growing up my neighbor in Silver Spring had a rooster. It was so annoying! They cock-a-doodle-doo all freaking day.
This was in the late 80s early 90s and just last month, my friend told me that the rooster belonged her aunt who lived on my street!
The one piece of consolation I will give is they don't live as long as dogs!

If I were in that situation, I would not give up on complaining. But I would also try to get the support of the other neighbors who are affected by the rooster's noise. Maybe if we file a joint complaint, the authorities will pay more attention and take action. 🤞

In FX, no roosters on under 7 acres. No hens on under 2 acres without a permit.

BTW, I support backyard chickens and think the rules should be looser (IMO, should allow a handful of hens on residential lots if your unpaved yard is above a certain size) but fools with roosters ruin it for everybody.
I didn't see the 7-acre rule on the page you linked. Could you quote the text? I saw a permit requirement if the lot is under 2 acres but that is not the same as a prohibition. Curious because I have a friend with chickens and a rooster on a less-than-2-acre lot in Fairfax.
