Mine is enjoying JMU, seems like there is a push to recruit and retain POCs.

My kid is enjoying UMD. There are lots of very active AA clubs. The university promotes diversity.

DC is thinking about colleges in Boston.
Specific as to BC, even as compared to BU. I don’t hear great things on this topic for Boston generally, but concerns about BC specifically have surfaced in various circles.
Boston has a tough reputation, historically re: URM, since there is one historically dominant ethnicity/background/culture (in Boston) group that was extremely racist. If you read up on Boston history, it is likely addressed (not sure whether or not they name the dominant racist group). Not all whites in Boston were racist, it was mostly one group of whites. I do not know whether they would be straightforward about it, but I am guessing no.

I am an African American alum of Columbia and loved it! Of course I graduated in the 90s but I remain close with a ton of fellow alums and we all have great memories of our experiences. Being in NYC, as opposed to some isolated and remote location, plays a role also in not making it feel so much like a PWI.
