As an English person I don’t really understand the allure/tradition behind it, I do like it the once a year I eat it though.

I like it, canned ingredients and all.

It’s not for people who like green beans. I hate green beans so consider the casserole a definite improvement! I like other green vegetables but green beans just don’t do it for me.
Your calling it dog food is also kind of funny because raw plain green beans are often recommended for dogs who need to lose weight. So I view plain green beans as diet dog food!

OP, you're pretty clueless if you don't realize that there are probably 50 foods you love or use often that other people would sneer at, whether it is jarred mayonnaise or your preferred pizza or pasta recipe. If you so much as use ketchup or canned tuna, or drink Diet Coke ever, you don't have a leg to stand on.
