They do seem to be understaffed. And they're fixing to close a lot of stores, because they overexpanded. It's the kind of thing that makes a person wonder why there is an effort to try to make us believe that it's all about theft.

We’re in the deny it’s happening stage of rampant crime.

While I cannot see how, I’m sure: Trump did this!!

That is foolish sarcasm. Unsarcastically, I am sure that the DC government and the DC voters did NOT do this.

Yes, you did.

Let’s say someone runs out of CVS with an armload of merchandise: can the police chase the thief? NOPE. You did that to your own police. You voted to tie their hands.

You voted to lower the penalties for theft under $1,000 to essentially the level of a parking ticket. YOUR council wrote the bill, YOUR mayor signed it, and now the police are bound to follow YOUR laws.

In 2018, you voted to decriminalize Metro fair evasion, and now the system is facing bankruptcy:

Look in the mirror, PP. You did this; the least you can do is own it.

The DC government and the DC voters caused RiteAid to declare bankruptcy? Do tell.

But let me guess, who cares about billion dollar corporations, it barely affects their revenues, it is insured, yadda yadda yadda.

I hope voters in the city love all of the inconvenience and retail deserts they voted for.

99% voted for this, I hope they enjoy the inconvenience especially when the CVS, walgreens and targets are all starting to shut their doors.

Voting has consequences folks. We'll see if you really want change soon enough....

I wonder how inner cities end up with “food deserts??” Doesn’t make any sense . . .

Since the new DC motto is 'crime for all', it's corollary will be 'food deserts' for all. Even in supposedly 'safer' neighborhoods, everyday products are under lock and key like it's a Tiffany's showroom.

+1
Zero sympathy. This is what those voters voted for.

Doubt too many people in my conservative suburb voted to have people from out-of-state come through and steal a bunch of laundry detergent from the grocery store at gunpoint.

We all should order online. Maybe one big store in every ward with several security doors.
We need the space for housing.

I will laugh every time I hear complaints of food deserts or excuses for why so many are obese. This is why you can’t have nice things.

Correction, NO ONE votes for hardship. Our betters make sure the suffering and misery keep on truckin'. If our votes really counted do you actually think THEY would let us vote ? NO.

Not holding thieves accountable is only part of the problem. The REAL reason so many big drug stores are closing have nothing to do with theft. One day very soon we all won't need them anyway. Bye Phoenicia.

I think what actually happened is that voters didn’t understand the long-term consequences of voting for things that make them feel good. Lower prison population? Sounds great! Oh wait…

Stupid hurts. No sympathy.

This is why people go shopping out in the suburbs. Tons of parking, products actually on shelves.
