You’re missing the point. It’s not about seeing the breast or breast-feeding. It’s about the potential of diseases, being transmitted. Why do you think healthcare workers and anybody who works with breastmilk wear gloves when handling it?

Secondary it is about the contamination of the pool. It’s not ok for someone to drink a box of milk either.

I don’t care at all about this and I don’t think it’s unhygienic. Breast milk isn’t likely to get into the pool, and if it does it’s certainly less than the snot and spit little kids leave in the pool. Chlorine may get in the baby’s mouth from touching the wet nipple, but also from you know, swimming.

In addition, my first baby at the 6mo - 1 year age was very insistent about nursing if she saw any part of my breast, such as cleavage that would normally be exposed in many/most swimsuits. It doesn’t sound like what OP saw was a full meal, since she said it was just a few minutes. I can imagine a situation where the mom was being pestered by a baby she knew wasn’t hungry but also wasn’t going to swim until it got a little snack. So she gave the snack then went back to swim, with much less disruption or distraction than leaving the pool.

Shocked they allowed that as the pool we go to is breastfeeding friendly but it’s not allowed in the pool.

It's weird to be bothered by the fact that kids saw her breasfeeding. But I do think it's bizarre to breastfeed IN the pool. Pools are gross. It's like breastfeeding in the bathroom.

I would care exactly 0%. In fact, if others were glaring, I'd probably try to catch her eye for a sympathetic look.

I’m 99% sure there’s a no eating in the pool rule, as there are at most pools. She should have at least stepped out of the water and fed the kid on deck.

I didn’t breastfeed but I managed to take my kid swimming once a week from 6 months up.
She didn’t need to eat the 30-40 mins she was in the water. They should be on a schedule by that age.
But if you want to have your body be on demand for feeding more power to you.

It's unusual she didn't step out of the pool but she didn't need to be hidden away from the world!

Moms breastfeed at our neighborhood pool (on the chairs) and I have as well.

Agree. I would expect her to get out of the pool, just like I would expect someone to take their kid out of the pool if they needed a snack. There’s no eating or drinking in a public pool. But sitting on the side is fine, and yes I have done that myself (with a towel as a cover).
