The strong dollar certainly helps!

Also check State Dept travel advisories. Western Europe almost all at level 2 and they issued a Worldwide Caution to US citizens: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/worldwide-caution.html.

Do you realize that other foreign governments are issuing similar cautionary guidance to their citizens regarding travel to the US?

In your own country, you are better able to spot things that might be out of the ordinary. If I travel overseas during times of turmoil, I stick to countries more familiar to me.

Okay, so the comparison you warned against traveling to was Western Europe. Do you really feel you’re safer/more unique positioned to avoid/evade a bomb attack/ mass shooting in NYC or Chicago than in Paris or Madrid?

I don’t know. I think it would be logical that travel to EU would decrease, but apparently there’s enough demand for prices to be sky high. I don’t get it either.

No, but I do think we might see an uptick in interest in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. Last summer's weather was just brutal in the usual European tourist haunts (Italy, Greece, southern Spain and France).

So true. I stick to tried and true safe things like bowling alleys.

Or my kids elementary school in a beautiful wooded suburban area. You know, ordinary safe places.

It's true- should probably just go to a safe place like Maine.

Many travel to see families back home, bot only in Europe but those who fly through Europe, which affects demand. Sure it’s a type of leisure travel, but it’s probably less elastic than pure tourism.

If you're waiting until crowds go down, OP, you will never go. Just book your trip and go, have fun.

Yes, and the incomes/wealth of the top 20% or so continues to rise. That is who makes up the vast majority of those traveling overseas.
