I bought a big area rug and covered up my ugly grey tile (the room is small: 10x15ish). Not what you asked, of course, but I couldn’t figure out what else to do. I like what Emily Henderson did in hers, but I’m still waiting to be really inspired by something and I like having a rug anyway.

I think terra cotta (whether real TC or tile that looks like TC) can also look great but the PP is right that it's more of a mediterranean look and might not go as well with your interiors unless you are already leaning that way. Brick is more versatile.


Terracotta is consistent with Tudor and other 1920s houses, not just mediterranean. OP, look on some design blogs at the terracotta floor examples and see if any are consistent with your house.
