+1. If my dog wakes me to go out in the middle of the bed, I fly out of bed. Learned the hard way that the only reason they’re interested in getting out of bed is if they’re sick and having an emergency.

Do other people have dogs that wander around at night? Of the six dogs I’ve had over the years, the only one that didn’t go to bed with us and get up when we did was a senior dog with dementia.

My dogs don’t do this unless they’re sick. And then it’s a one-off.

You need to get him out for a walk before bed. And let him sniff a bit. Even if they don’t want to get up. One of my dogs is stubborn, too, but you’re the adult; they have to go. We walk ours around 10/11, give a tiny treat, they go to bed. It’s just routine.

My dog doesn’t want to get up to go out at bedtime either. I either bribe him with a treat or go outside without him, which triggers his separation anxiety and gets him to trot to the door, where he’s so glad to be reunited with me that he’ll come on out.

My 12lb dog goes out around 9;30pm and will sleep until 9am or even later if I sleep in.

I haven't since he was fully house trained.

OP here. Oh man, jumping on your bed? Lol- I completely relate to the last part. I also shut our bedroom door when my DH is gone, and I sleep peacefully through any whining.

We let our dog out right before we go to bed. And that can vary by the night. I typically go to bed at 10 but I might go to bed later or earlier. Regardless, that is the last time the dog goes out until we wake up in the morning around six. And on weekends, we may sleep in until 8:00 or 830.

He is a small dog. 11 pound poodle. Six years old.

He sleeps in our bed with us and will sleep until it's time for us to get up. He also is very tired by about 9 PM every night. He goes to sleep on the couch until I wake him up to let him out when I go to bed.

Mine goes out one last time around 9:30 pm before she goes to bed, then for the rest of the night she snores, I have to wake her up at 7:00 to take her outside. So, what you are doing is not normal.

We let our dog out in the backyard right before bed. If she were ever to wake us in the middle of the night to go out I'd assume it's because she was sick. Normal, healthy dog at that age should be able to hold it overnight.
