Why not? Isn’t the goal to hire someone with professional experience in their field? If the boys’ soccer team hired a DC United player as coach, would that be a bad “look”?
I’m not clear on what kind of corruption or unfair advantage is being implied here. Without more specifics, it just sounds like sour grapes.

Sounds like the implication is that wealthy parents use their privilege to give their children an unfair advantage. TLDR this is nothing new.
