I understand that schools become more or less trendy for all kinds of totally valid and utterly ridiculous reasons. But, with a school like Auburn, it’s crazy that 10 years ago, anyone with a pulse and checkbook was admitted. Those people are now carrying the same degree that is ostensibly requiring top tier tests and GPAs.
It is, after all, Auburn.

Auburn is a nice little college town. Good academics and social life. It’s not far from the Atlanta airport so travel is easy. Good weather.

It’s weird. Same thing is happening at University of Tennessee, where OOS acceptance rate dropped by 35% in one year (amazing, but true).

I reported this before, but last year my big 3 kid with a 3.2 GPA and 33 ACT was rejected in the early round. They do not read essays or recommendations. We had even visited Auburn, but they do not consider interest either. Counselor thought they just didn’t have any context for the rigor of the curriculum, no AP classes, unweighted GPAs. Traditionally, very few kids applied to Auburn from our school. This has changed though. YMMV
