Just another example of how the far left is super casually misogynistic and classist without even realizing it. I remember reading some really good perspectives from immigrant and POC women when the mentally unstable and “known to the community” Michael Jackson impersonator guy was killed in the altercation on the NYC subway. Basically no one deserves to die in a fight, but they’d all much rather sit next to Daniel Penny and enjoy a quiet subway ride vs. a Jordan Neely and be harassed for money, threatened, or attacked.

Jeff and many others here think this is just fine. Everyone should get to live their lives however they want. When are people going to wake up and realize that we need to enforce crime. I hope everyone who had supported these policies realizes that they have blood on their hands. This is not okay!!!

Sorry a career criminal drug addict died in police custody 2000 miles away three years ago so those Hispanic childcare workers will just have to chill and live with this.

If you click on the instagram post from Washingtonian Problems and scroll and read the comments many residents of the block and neighborhood have posted that they knew him, identify him by name. It is unclear if he is homeless but many thought he was (he is always wearing the same clothes). He abuses some sort of substance and is always under the influence (of what it doesn't say) but they post that there is an open air drug market closeby that he frequents. He had some sort of manic, violent and crazy episode at the local Dunkin Donuts. One woman posts that he exposed himself to her and her son as they were walking home. Several people say he screams at them, jumps out of no where to be suddenly in their face and aggressive.

This is horrific. The woman who had numerous contacts with him and called police then said she didn’t want to press charges though, and then seemed to be blaming police when she said she kept sending them information and they didn’t respond! Lady, MPD is not a social services agency, when you said you didn’t want to press charges what exactly did you expect the police to do?!

It would be nice for once if elected representatives were more concerned about the impact of crime on the victims rather than the perpetrators.

Did being a victim of a brutal beating cause a mental health crisis for the victims? Do the victims require support services? They don’t say because they don’t care.

Their concern for victims of violent crime in the city is no different that Republicans response to masa shootings: “thoughts and prayers”, “let’s not politicize this”, etc. It’s disturbing.

People with mental issues wandering around the city and assaulting people are routine in downtown DC, and never make the news. Even worse, most of the time, the police refuse to enforce the law because of the “mental issues” of the perpetrators.

The difference now is the victims and circumstances. Preschool teachers attacked in front of their kids. So sad.

This new DC is full of crime, thanks to Mayor Bowser.

Not being released without a psychiatrists say - so? I'm fine with an appeal panel and all that, but people need to be kept and treated until they are better. Can this be legislated at the local level?


The Supreme Court has fundamentally dismantled involuntary committment. Basically, the SC forces jurisdictions to wait until the person commits a crime before putting them away for good. We can pass whatever law we want, but SC will overturn it on Constitutional grounds.
