If your player and your family feel like your player deserves, rather than earned more playing time as a guest - it's unlikely you will be invited again. It sounds like your player has certain expectations that are unlikely to be fulfilled.

Guest players are doing your team a favor. Be thankful that you have people willing to spend three or four hours in the car for their kid to play 5 minutes. We had a coach like that and once word got around to the B team and the younger teams, he had a lot of trouble finding anyone willing to make the drive.

Again. What is the outcome for the team? If they are at a high level of play, they want a win. I can't remember what league your player is in - but some leagues have strict substitution rules - they aren't unlimited. "Matches in the 15U, 16U, 17U, 18U and 19U age groups will operate under the
FIFA-7 players “per half” substitution system (limited substitution). Once replaced, players cannot re-enter the game during that half of play." This has impacted regular players in addition to guest players. A high level of play is not about equal playing time. You have an option to participate.

I definitely agree. But this can be a little frustrating for existing bench players that get limited time to begin with but now have to share their limited playing time with guess players too.

Guests shouldn't be invited unless their is a need. If you already have 13 or 14 kids going, you don't need a guest.

13 or 14 at 9 v9, maybe. Not for 11 v 11. you need around 18 -20 players.

You do not need 18 players for 11 v 11. You need 13 or 14. The majority of players should be able to play the entire game. 20 is ridiculous

Where can you find 14 year olds who can play/run hard on 11v11 full size field for 80 minutes in all positions without needing subs?

You need 18-20 if you wanna ensure the higher level execs are putting filet on their table every night!

You need 18 on a roster. For a game 13 or 14 is enough. Kids should be playing the whole game or most of it. 20 means that some kids either barley play or some kids only play half

I think that the way guest players are used is highly dependent on the coach. My daughter moved up through a regular guesting gig and did sometimes play for 5-10 mins at far away games. It wasn’t awesome for anyone, but she did move up the following year and then made it to starter after a few months.

I think that asking to go to practices if you’re going to play with the team makes sense as long as you’re able to go to your regular practice still as well.

It’s pretty clear cut - and absolutely fine to say if asked again -

Last time she was asked she played 5 minutes. If you can assure us she will get at least 15 minutes a half we are in. Otherwise - it’s time much time and effort and disappointment for 5 minutes. Just be up front.

At this point - she has to decide if club soccer is her out of school thing or not. There are lots of high school options. Plays, music, clubs, sports, etc. It’s fine to play lower level club and high school ball. If the goal would be to up her level - start individual work and individual fitness work. By Spring she can be in shape and will have improved her technical ability. Will she caught up? No. But she will be much improved.

My daughter is in high school and plays for a top club. We had a B team player guest play a few times, and the following year she made the A team as second string. The year after that she was playing about half of each game. Kids move clubs or drop out, which creates opportunities for those who are on the bubble. I would consider guest playing and asking the coach if you can come to a couple of practices ahead of time. You can also see if it’s possible for her to ride up with another family to save money.

Its all about the $$$. They don't want to move up a family who is willing to pay for Team 2 or lower, when Team 1 families will take their money and leave if they don't make Team 1. And no new customers want that lower team spot.
