In the last election I would have voted Krucoff over Frumin and Czapery over Nadeau, to start (not my wards though). People have to vote in the primaries. Allen needs a viable challenger too.

I am thinking about this. Is there a mechanism to declare neighborhoods private with a guard house at the entry? I'm being serious. if there isn't there isn't, and default to neighborhood watch and the reach out you mention?

I would argue Allen, Nadeau and Lewis-George are not the problem actually. They're just really good at representing the preferences of their own constituents, as you would expect of any good politician. Unfortunately the hard truth is that many DC voters are either super pro self-flagellation or pro-crime, or both.


The DC voting process is broken. They don't really represent preferences. We desperately need "ranked voting". Is there any group pushing this? I'd rarely sign petitions but I'd be happy to sign that, as well as repealing the marijuana legislation that has been a disaster for DC due to lack of enforcement of the ban on public smoking.

Start with looking at the entire chain and points of failure, like

Lack of parenting, supervision, proper upbringing, this city is full of nihilistic teens who don't understand that "free car" mentality isn't going to get them far in life

Community attitudes, like "why call it in, they won't do anything anyhow"

911 - they are short on dispatchers, that needs to be fixed (they are at least trying to give incentives to staff up)

When a crime is reported, how is it handled - how long til police show, do they actually do anything? As for the "no pursuit" policy shouldn't the city at least consider using GPS darts or similar technology rather than just shrugging their shoulders and saying "oh well?" And cars with fake tags - NEED to be towed on the spot. Pointless to put yet another ticket on the windshield when there is no name or address to go with it.

Prosecution - how can we put pressure on prosecutors to do their job? Can we hold them accountable? If prosecutors aren't prosecuting a huge number of cases or are letting violent criminals go only to commit crime again, shouldn't we have some recourse to sue the prosecutors for liability and not doing their job? And shouldn't we stop letting kids off easy when they are committing violent crimes and using guns to do them?

Evidence - can we get the damn forensic lab situation fixed already, and how is it excusable that it's dragged on as long as it has?

Courts - are juries letting violent repeat offenders off? Are they being appropriately sentenced?

You know what works? Clear, known and immediate consequences. They don't have to be overly punitive consequences. A person doesn't need 20 years in jail for carrying an illegal gun. But they may think twice if they know they will immediately get 3 months in jail. Not wait 18 months - 2 years for trial, out on recognizance. The only thing they suffered for carrying a gun was a few hours getting processed, and then back out on the street.

There is too large a population of people who don’t value safety and education. It’s far easier to move somewhere else and not live near people like this.
