Most are open to all neighborhood residents. Some have no residency restrictions. Do you think they should offer free membership and bus service to public housing?

The YMCA on Monroe has a pool, and there is also the St James Club in Springfield and OneLife in Crystal City that have indoor pools.

I can only speak to Little Hunting Park, but it is a great place for kids during the summer. I don't think it's really comparable to a city pool

OP here - you guys are awesome, this was incredibly helpful. I like to play tennis too so that would be a bonus if they include courts. I’ll just make peace with the distance and look into all of these. There is way more available than I expected so that is good news.

Highland Park and Virginia Hills pools are both off Telegraph, not too far down. Virginia Hills did not have a wait a couple of years ago, not sure about now.

We lived in Del Ray and joined a pool that was among those mentioned. It's fine when the kids are little and you're willing to make it your weekend day in the summer. But it's not all like a true community pool feel. (I grew up in Arlington which does have private community pools based in neighborhoods.) Your kid can never really reasonably do swim team and you're not going to typically go on week nights and as they get older they won't want to go.

Warwick pool is great, but I really wish they had a snack bar!

Hollin Meadows and Mt Vernon park are the big ones for Old Town and Del Ray residents. Hollin Hills used to be, but they're popular now thanks to pickleball

We belong to one of the ones listed and it's NBD to go from the neighborhood. 15-20 minutes in the car. Sure, I wish it were only 5 minutes, but the benefits are worth the effort for the short summer season.

Definitely get on the lists now. Hollin Hills is two years, Dowden Terrace has a very small membership (unless you have a phenom swimmer) then they suddenly have room, Parklawn is at a three year wait if out of the neighborhood, I think Highland Park has space - they are pretty nice too.

Hollin Hills, Little Hunting, Parklawn, Dowden Terrace, Highland Park. All have Del Ray members. Worth getting on a few waitlists and seeing what happens - things open up. Or neighbors sell memberships sometimes.

We belong to one of the ones listed and it's NBD to go from the neighborhood. 15-20 minutes in the car. Sure, I wish it were only 5 minutes, but the benefits are worth the effort for the short summer season.

Not really the same thing. People go to pool clubs for the social aspects as much as the swimming.

The lots in DR are tiny. Not an option.
