OP here. I have 2 kids and both kids not excited about UVA. My higher stat kid should be able to get into UVA but is aiming higher. My lower stat kid is the one who likes UMich. I don’t think he would get into UVA but would not want to go there even if he did get in.

They will keep raising the price until OOS demand cools.

At that price point and selectivity, might as well try for Columbia or Stanford instead because Michigan is behaving like they are direct peers in attracting your child. Take them at their word.

If it’s as hard to get into as an Ivy, and costs what an Ivy does, but it doesn’t give financial aid like an Ivy or offer everything Yale could, then it’s not logical to chase it.

I think super flagships with national brands can definitely command a premium over in-state flagships but “yeah it’s the same as Princeton money and admission wise” shows just how frenzied the demand levels are.

If you live in Virginia is it really worth the 2x price tag versus UVA, plus UVA has 2/3 of seats reserved for Virginians so your chances are much much better.

My son loves UMich. He had never even been there yet. He is a solid student and is a strong athlete but not college recruit type athlete.

For out of state students, it is essentially a single digit admit rate.

My 4.0 unwgpa, 4.9w wgpa, 1580 SAT DC was waitlisted, CS major.

A friend of theirs with similar stats was accepted as an Engineering major.

Then don’t pay it. It’s a simple matter of supply and demand. It’s only gouging if there are no other choices.

Michigan wouldn’t accept 22 students from any OOS school if there weren’t a high amount of matriculation.

What is the uw GPA? Michigan reconfigures all GPAs on a 4.0 scale

It’s a reach but worth a shot if not applying to those ultra competitive programs.

I think the SAT needs to be over 1500 to have a chance. 1450 is pretty low.
