I went on a service work trip the summer I was 16 and wore the boots every single day. They were super comfortable.

My 14 year old daughter has a pair of maryjanes and always brings a pair of back-up shoes to school when she wears them. She wants the style but doesn't like wearing the shoes.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I bought a pair at the Covent Garden store in London in 1997, and they were so uncomfortable. My feet would be so angry now if I tried. But, DD got a pair for her birthday in August and really likes them, wears them to school, etc..

They’re heavy. I have Achilles tendonosis and have struggled with plantar fasciitis in the past, and I wear them in fall/winter when it isn’t too snowy and I want more support than duck boots. They don’t make my ankle and foot problems worse, which I can’t say for most shoes.

I also like them for a volunteer role I do that involves standing for long periods of time on terrazzo floors. It’s a specific look, though, and I’m usually a fairly preppy/classic dresser so I have to plan outfits with some intentionality to make them work.

They’re “heavy” compared to typical women’s shoes because they are actually protective of feet—both in that the footbed is foot-shaped and in that the uppers are able to hold up against, say, someone too close to you at a concert stomping on your toes.

It’s true that they don’t have cushy bottoms or arch support. If you have aged to the point where you have lost fat padding on the bottoms of your feet, they may not be comfortable in that way.

I have an old pair of two buckle Mary Janes from when they were still made in England. They’re insanely comfortable, but they definitely had a break in period. They’re also heavy.

I find them comfortable but they are heavy. My legs hurt in strange ways the day after I wear them.

I remember them just being heavy—mine weren’t the more feminine style though. I’m wary of the new ones that are made in Asia.

I got DD a pair from Nordstrom Rack a few years ago and her elementary school art teacher got a big kick out of them.

LOL, in the late 80s/early 90s I got a pair for my birthday. They hurt so bad, I gave them to my best friend (who couldn't afford a pair) and she was happy to wear them for a while to break them in, and then give them back to me.

I only wear Crocs now in my "old age"....
