Subject: Moving to a new neighborhood with a long pool waitlist
OP - if you mention the area, people may have more suggestions. We have a number of swimmers/families at our pool who are there because they didn’t want to wait for waitlist to clear. Our pool is about 5-10 min drive from the ones with the huge waitlist.

Our pool waitlist was 10 years last I heard. But I think we allow people to have a limited membership if they join the swim team.
This is against NVSL rules, not sure about other summer leagues.
OP, get on the waitlist. Find out if there are other options under that pool's bylaws such as buying a house with a membership that conveys, or direct sale from an existing member.

Giving up our pool and not being able to get into a new one is also one consideration as to why we're not moving. Our kids aren't even on the swim team but its a huge part of our social life in the summer and our kids are to old to spend 5 years on a wait list.

Generally, when kids hit 9-10 advanced training groups, they have club practice/meets through July.

Not sure which league you're in, OP (MCSL, NVSL, PMSL, and I know there are others).
Some PPs have excellent suggestions. I didn't know membership could convey with a home purchase.
In your shoes, if there's no other way, I'd get on the waitlist for the pool I preferred and then find another pool to join in the meantime. You might like the other pool so much that you decline a spot once it's offered. That's happened to us and to others we know.

No, the bigger clubs/serious swimmers actually swim through the end of July and take off the month of August.

I would assume this is an Arlington pool?
I would call. Our pool has a 2-3 year waitlist but not for preferred zip codes. They tend to get in immediately (and with the moving in and out, and older families leaving and new young families moving in) keep the waitlist very long if you are just outside the areas.
A lot of neighborhoods are like this.
