No offense but I don’t see how your productivity over the next 10 years will justify your cost to the taxpayers of America. Between cognitive decline and health deterioration, you have likely surpassed your peak of productivity.

The government should have a forced retirement age for this reason.

I have always been an individual contributor. However, I have also started my own consulting practice, in 2008, before I turned 40. It was just something I did on the side.

You can easily make yourself an executive by starting your own business, if it's that important.

I keep my ego in check. I ask myself what is that I really want?

I'm 53, soon to be 54, white non-Hispanic female. I was recently laid off. I've had luck with interviews. I have two 1099 contract gigs. I'm sure I will have another W2 gig by next year 2024. I've had interviews for jobs that pay at least 20% more than what I was making.

The key to a successful job search is to apply for jobs you know you will get. Women are told to apply for jobs even if you don't meet all of the qualifications. You can do that. Some of those jobs are for political reasons and for favors of political friends.

How long have you worked for government? You should be able to afford to retire.

F200.

Boom days of the last two years are over. But it's not all doom and gloom either. Stealth layoffs are happening, but some specialized hiring is still happening. Everyone expects 2024 to be a difficult but not impossible year. I do think at some point soon unemployment is going to start going up a bit but not massively. At the same time it won't be easy to find desirable candidates. The overall employment market is murky and it's clear many people are fading out of it whether through retirement or stopping work altogether and the pool of qualified employees is in reality smaller.

Well, I am looking for people with expertise in CyberSecurity and they are very hard to find. Jobs that paid 200K+ are still left unfilled.

That’s because cyber is mostly about checkbox certs, not skills. So you have spend $$$$ and months of time for non-degree certs, vs just building an app and spinning up some instance of AWE to demo your coding portfolio or whatever hand waving sales people do.

If cyber wasn’t so reliant on those certs it would hire very capable technical people who likely would do job better than the average CompTIA drone.

And probably a poly clearance no one wants to deal with that for just 200k

The worst is you become a high profile target for cyber criminal

How old?

30s

So kinda early for ageism esp in healthcare, or are you more tech side of healthcare? Then it’s you are exec level or screwed.

I am in tech but there are a lot of well paid ICs in my field. I endeavor to be a manager but suspect sexism is at play. I hope to pivot out of the tech side.

I’m considering getting a resume writer atp. I don’t know what else to do.

Sure there are a few well paid IC but they get pushed out if they aren’t leadership. Management is definitely bro-focused these days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brotopia
