We went to the Open House today. It.is.not.that.great.

Lol. What didn't impress you?

The vibe.
The dancers.

Translation: too diverse.

DP: It was very diverse (which didn’t bother me). But the hyper sexual dance routines were a bit much for a Sunday morning at a catholic school open house. I think the band was awesome and the dancers were an unnecessary distraction.

exactly, can't we just have the white cheerleaders and poms.

Here is their dance program.

They also have pom https://www.olgchs.org/poms
and cheerleaders https://www.olgchs.org/cheerleading

I made the comment and I am Black. So not opposed to diversity. It just seemed too much. All they needed was a pole. Not sure why they allowed that - it detracted from the band and wasn’t necessary.

Agreed.

Which group are you referring too? The step/majorettes? The poms team? Or the dance club kids? I stress kids and truly hope they were not performing explicit movements. While I did not witness that, I do fear it was the case. Have you given your feedback to the school?

The dancers were a bit much. It was pretty shocking for a catholic school. The girls were practically twerking.

Who not have poms or cheerleaders perform?

LOL, that ain't saying much. Its a fine school and there are plenty of high achieving ADW kids but GC does seem to be doing their best to price many of them out. 30K? Its a fine school but it ain't no 30K school imo. They must be just milking the local wealth.

This is true. And psst, the MCPS kids are smarter than the local K-8 Catholic kids especially better at math. So the MCPS kids score higher on the HSPT and voila, the kids who used to get in with mid scores and grades can no longer get in anymore.

We saw tons of fellow mcps families at the open house today—including families whose older kids are in public high schools.

I would guess that a lot of families assigned to Magruder, Sherwood, and Blake that can afford it are making the jump. I’d also venture to guess that some Reservoir families are looking at GC too.

We did too. Sorry K-8 families, you're about to get iced out.

You are delusional! The kids from the Catholic K-8s will get the nod first. Those relationships are strong and go back decades. First hand knowledge of how it works.

This and the fact Catholic K-8s are doing quite well academically. My Catholic school kids scores very high on the HSPT. They were really prepared for that test.
