When you drive off of a bridge and into a lake, those kids will be able to swim up to the surface.
You will be buckled down and drown.

My car makes a loud obnoxious ping until every seat with somebody in it is belted up. Everyone hates it so on the occasion that somebody forgets or is planning not to wear a seatbelt the whole car is telling them to do it so the annoying noise will go away.

The driver is responsible for all passengers under 18 in the car. You can get in trouble for it. Also, seatbelts prevent people from becoming projectiles that could injure you. No free will in my car.

I feel this, too. I haven't ever had to remind anyone to put on a seatbelt. It's automatic.

I’m a paramedic. I cannot sufficiently stress how much more likely someone is to die not wearing a seatbelt in a serious accident.

I just ran a call a few months ago where the 2 unbelted passengers were severely injured (one died on scene, one had severe injuries and was ejected). Everyone else belted had minor injuries. Same car.

I'm motivated by self interest. 1. My car, I could potentially get a ticket for someone without a seatbelt. 2. If there is an accident the person without a seat belt will probably be hurt worse than otherwise resulting in a larger claim or me possibly getting sued. 3. If someone's kid got badly hurt in an accident and I didn't insist on a seatbelt I wouldn't be able to face the parents and I would (rightly so) probably be pilloried by the other parents for not enforcing a basic safety rule. 4. I would feel incredibly guilty if someone died in my car because I didn't make them buckle up.

I do not wear my seatbelt I just don't. My whole family incl my 2 kids do. Some of their friends do/don't. I'm OK with it. Shit happens in life but I am not a control freak. This is just not something I'm going to stress ever.

I don't even let adults ride in my car w/o a seatbelt, let alone children. My car, my responsibility, seat belts on. If you don't want to wear one, tie up your laces and I'll see you there.

I know kids who have died. Or ones that were in terrible terrible terrible accidents and who are alive because of seatbelts.

Everybody wears one. Sometimes my 8yo refuses and I either have time to pull over and sit until he does, offer up potential negative consequences, or there’s just no time or reasoning and he rides without one. I make sure he knows how painful it would be to crash through the windshield at 45 mph

My kids have friends who try to avoid it, in a testing the rules kind of way. I hate having to make a stink about it and I know their parents aren’t okay with it.

My kids friends just about always put on a seatbelt as soon as they get in my car. The only time they don’t is when they are talking so much they forget about it but I never move until they are all belted in. I’ve never heard a kid say their parents don’t make them wear one.

I had teens refuse seat belts. I told them I wasn't driving till they put them on.

I have never known anyone, teen or otherwise, to not wear a seatbelt.

My kids (oldest is 20) aren't exactly rule followers but even they are 100% compliant with seat belts. My oldest DS is in a fraternity and, as a pledge, was a designated driver for house parties - picking up/dropping off guests. Part of the requirement, in addition to having to be on the guest list, all passengers have to be seat belted and he couldn't transport more guests than he had seat belts.
