That said, the OP is ridiculous.
People need to distinguish between the “college experience” which is a luxury and the benefits of a college education for upward mobility, which can be obtained through community college and state college options at a reasonable price. It is not the DMV, it is UMC and UMC aspiring communities that focus on a college experience for their kids that is becoming financially out of reach (or a poor investment depending on your circumstances).
The strongest price sensitive students will get financial aid and get the best of both, but they are the minority.
The vast majority of student debt is held by kids attending the $7,000 / year state school down the street...not kids knowing which schools offer merit aid or gaining acceptance to an Ivy that will provide 100% grants to that kid. These kids are living at home and borrowing the entire $7,000 per year because these schools offer only loans and their LMC families don't contribute anything.
Now...these are also the kids more likely to just go work at an Amazon warehouse for $25/hour vs. go to college at all.
