We do this and it's glorious. Don't tie them together. The beauty in it is that you each get your own comforter and weight. I should note that we stopped using a top sheet and just use the duvet. It was a change, but we both sleep SO much better this way.

We have a Northern European bed set up. It’s a Queen bed with fitted sheet and then we each have a twin duvet in a weight that works for our needs with matching, washable cotton duvet covers. I fold each duvet in thirds when I make the bed and cover with a pretty knitted throw. The fitted sheet and duvet covers are changed weekly. It’s so much more comfortable than sharing covers.

Married 20 years. We started using separate covers about 3 years ago. I sleep so much better. I use weighted blanket, too. DH runs a lot warmer than I do.

This would drive me nuts. We do a heated mattress pad. I adjust mine warm and my husband doesn’t use his.

We use a quilt/coverlet year round with a down comforter underneath in the winter and it works well. DH almost never uses the comforter but I do. He’s happy to push it to the side. We actually joke about him making a wall every night between us where he folds over the sheet, comforter then quilt and uses each one as needed.

You could do two twin duvets in one king size cover. Sew ties into the corners and middle of the cover if they aren’t already there. Then then tie in the duvets. They should go anywhere.
We use two twin size duvets each in their own matching covers so we don’t fight over the blankets. We like the same weight covers, but DH is an incorrigible blanket hog and I finally gave up trying to fight him for the covers. Saved our marriage!
