Why is this even a question? It’s such a no brained. No woman with an ounce of self respect would live with him. Utter disrespect of their marriage.

This. Who cares if you were a movie star and governor?

And the poor kid, having to know that his mom was cleaning his dad's house and having to have the wife as her boss. So demeaning.

Huh? The baby is irrelevant. What do you think he was doing with other women. Taking the back door? Don’t think so.

The man's a pig. He was sexually harassing and molesting women on the set. Having a longterm affair with your housekeeper in your own home where your wife and children live is the lowest of the low.

I mean the housekeeper said they did it on Arnold's married bed. IDK how you can trust and go back to someone but I'm sure Arnold won't have no problem finding a woman if he hasn't already. Women have the lowest self esteem in the world.

What I took away from the story was that she was willing to look the other way on a whole lot of his selfish behavior, including his affairs and their life always being about his career, but he went to far when he couldn’t be bothered to be discreet and prevent himself from conceiving another child.

The only thing that’s regrettable here is how he single handedly destroyed his marriage and broke up his family.

This! ^^^

Also agree with other OP - no trust, no marriage. It is just like the couples where you know one of them is cheating, you know the spouse knows, and you also know you should not have an opinion because you do not live under their roof. But, really, who wants to be publicly humiliated like that?

No trust=no marriage.

OP - what do imagine Maria would want to be doing as a "family unit" that they aren't doing (or couldn't do)?

Would you today regret divorcing Arnold for fathering a son with the housekeeper?

I wonder what would have happened if Maria forgave him, and they were still together as a family unit.

Arnold has a girlfriend. I'm not sure about Maria having a boyfriend. They just seemed very in love in the beginning. And Arnold seemed genuinely sorry. He told in his autobiographical documentary how Maria asked the marriage counselor to ask Arnold during one of their sessions if he was Joseph's father. And he said yes. When he tells this story, he seems so remorseful.

I think I would have forgiven him.

Who cares.

And you forget that she is from a wealthy family with strong manners and values (sponsor Special Olympics for decades, buildings, swim centers).

She’s not unhappy nor bases her happiness on Arnold’s Reset Button relationships. No one cares.

Agree. You don't get to father the housekeeper's kid and remain married. Maria doesn't need him and no longer wants him. Good riddance!

Maria fell in love with him the way he was. I don't think Arnold is a disgusting man who hurt women. He at least apologized for his past. He started out as a body builder, on stage in nothing more than a bikini. He was in an environment in the 1970s in LA that was probably different than today. There were no accusations of him committing any crimes against women.

He had such childhood trauma that made him how he was.
