That’s sad. Echo PP that it used to be a great place for kids from working class or middle class backgrounds to get a solid education. Had two family members graduate from there in the early 80s and went on to good careers, solid grad school programs, and both are very well spoken, good writers, analytical thinkers.

I think a lot of the smaller schools with small endowments are getting pushed out of this market.

I would not send my child here. They just fired
dozens of (tenured!) faculty, they cut multiple programs, and they’ve offered no fundraising plan—serious financial trouble. Students feel the new president is condescending and tone deaf, and many are looking to transfer bc of this. Seriously—there are much better schools. This one is a pale version of its former self, sadly.

We considered it but ranked Loyola MD above it.

Got it. Basically they are laying off faculty, cutting majors, and still have a huge unspecified deficit.

Such a bummer. My D had it as a safety for engineering this year. They gave her a lot of merit aid. She got into T10 ED school, so a moot point for us, but I really liked the idea of a LAC with engineering and in an urban area.

I’m sorry to hear the financial issues with the college. My grandfather went there and went on to build an incredibly successful business. He donated money toward scholarships for engineering students. He loved to read letters from the students thanking him.

PP who posted the article on faculty cuts. My DC had Manhattan on their safety list but we may be crossing it off now...

I have a cousin who is currently enrolled.
She is a recruited athlete - so her experience may be different than others. She has had a solid college experience (given 1st year was full COVID year) but I am uncertain if she would have selected it if it was not for the opportunity to play her sport at the next level.

Yes, what PP wrote is true. They just had to turn over financials in a lawsuit and it is not looking good for them.

Plus they are also in litigation for sexual abuse Prof vs student. And rapes are not investigated here, they block the police at every turn.. I would not send a daughter for sure.

It is a Catholic Institution if you are of another religion not a good fit. Religious studies are built into the core curriculum. There are students from other religions there is a bus to a synagogue and for Muslims they offer Jummah prayer, however those students get tormented on a daily basis.

There are a lot of Irish pubs, An Beal Bocht, as well as other dwelling spots for Manhattan College students on the west side of the park.
