Get an instant read thermometer. You open the oven door, poke the thermometer in, 2-4 seconds, it will beep, then you take it out, close the oven door and can check the readout. Here is one example:
https://www.amazon.com/BHY-Thermometer-Digital-Waterproof-Grillers/dp/B0CF1DCFBR/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1ON99WFG91XKP&keywords=instant%2Bread%2Bmeat%2Bthermometer&qid=1696444744&s=industrial&sprefix=instant%2Bread%2Bmeat%2Bthermomete%2Cindustrial%2C104&sr=1-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1
It fits your criteria (1) does not use your phone/app (2) does not leave oven door cracked open for a cord (3) does not require you to stick your head into the oven. The display does not automatically clear. You either manually clear it or it turns off after 10 min. It's LCD, so doesn't use up a lot of battery power when on.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love you!

But am I going to have to put my face right up near the hot pan to read the thermometer? Or will the temperature stay on the screen for a while after I take the thermometer out of the meat so I can read it?

Take the food out, take the temp, then put the food back in the oven.
