Yes, OP, this is what it's like for a lot of us, so that's probably what it is. After the phase you're in now, I was having them almost every hour at times, sometimes preceded by a quick little headache and that feeling of doom. Then the burst of heat, then the cold sweat. Once every hour or two. Now, about 5 years in, at 56, I get these every few hours. As always, though, if it doesn't feel quite right, check with your doctor. But intuition says, yeah, that seems like the start of hot flashes.

Thank you, dealing with this for years sounds awful. I haven’t had an uninterrupted night of sleep in weeks ( fan on full blast, layers of blankets, etc).
Follow up question, my periods have been unpredictable for a couple years but my most recent one was september or october. If I’m understanding correctly, the periods are going to be even more unpredictable and I’m going to have these annoying hot flashes at the same time?
Yes, i am going to schedule a gyn appointment but I need a new one due to insurance changes and I don’t have older friends or family to ask these questions.

Can I ask—why don’t get on HRT? What an awful set of symptoms to deal with so regularly!

Face is a common area (neck and chest). You ask others if it is hot, and they think not. Can be triggered by wine also, in my experience.

Yes, actual heat. You can get flushed and start sweating. It’s real.

Yup. Glasses fog, turn beet red, not in our heads.

I had the “feeling of doom” feeling preceding the hot flash. It was kind of terrifying.

Yes, I have at least 5 or 6 per day. I'm hot pretty much from the shoulders up, and sweat around my hairline. It feels like it lasts forever, but when I time it, it really tends to only last a minute or so. I've been having them off and on, with varied intensity, since 2019 (I'm 53). The ones at night are the worst, I have a fan pointed right at me in bed.

It is like an internal furnace just kicks on. Sometimes the first thing that happens is I feel thirsty.

Warm in the face is how I'd describe my early days of hot flashes.

+1 experiencing it now, though I'm probably a year or more into my menopause.

I would start by feeling a heart beat in my entire body and feel heat rising. The. My face turns red and sweat buckets from my face and scalp.

This sounds like night sweats if you only get it at night from being under the covers. I wouldn't think it's unique to menopause. I always thought hot flashes is something more extreme you get during the day.

I wish it was only during the day. Hot flashes are definitely a night time thing as well, actually some women mostly get them at night.

Yep. Later it turned onto my entire body feeling like it is on fire.

It feels like my idiot boss finally turned up the air conditioning. They're pleasant, honestly.
