Something to note is that Tesla EVs currently outsell the next EV competitors by about a factor of 10. Although the older car companies have a lot of experience, most of their experience with manufacturing EVs is much more limited.

I have a hybrid Volvo, a Tesla, and the porche taycan. Love them all, but the taycan meets your need for size and is such a great car.

Never trust these small companies. If they go under your up s creek if a part breaks. They can also have insane problems with supplying parts for repair and costs are astronomical. See the stories of rivians who got into accidents and a fender replacement costing like $50k.

Screw that. I’d never buy from one of these small botiques. Polestar is backed by Volvo of course, but I still would stay away because it is a niche production line.


Polestar PP here. Yes, we worried about this, but it is a spinoff of Volvo and we see more and more of them around every week. It's remarkably well-made - we've had it for 1.5 years and zero problems with the car itself, and it is high-quality and solid. It is also incredibly fun to drive - I drive it daily and we've gone on multiple long-haul roadtrips with it.

Love mine too. Great price, decent range, much better fit and finish than other EVs in its price or even 20k more

I love my Volvo XC40 Recharge. I have owned /leased a lot of cars and this is my favorite by far! Sometime next year, Volvo will have an adapter to allow their cars to use the Tesla Chargers.

If you want longer range, a lot of the carmakers are coming out with RWD EVs for their 2024 cars that get longer range becuase they are a lighter car (Genesis, for example). OR more RWD cars will be available in early 2024 bc they sold first in 2023 (Hyundai didn't have any when we were there last week, for one example). You will have more options if you wait for all the 2024s to be out (some makers are holding them back until the 2023s are off the lots, i.e. Volvo) but who knows what the deals will be.

+1. Given the speed of charging, Tesla really is the only reasonable option if you plan to ever take a road trip. Get the long range model.


I can fully charge my ID.4 in 45 mins at supercharging networks along the way. That’s time to get a coffee/soda, use the bathroom, and stretch your legs a bit. Works for us.

Also I have an adaptor to use Tesla chargers (not the super fast one though), but I’ve never needed to use it.

Or a plug in hybrid? We have the plug in hybrid Tucson (very tall family of four) and it feels almost as spacious as our much larger third row SUV.

Realistically we mostly drive within 45 miles so it get many of the benefits of an electric but you can take it on road trips more easily on gas if it is the only car.
