Seems silly, but a lot of parents forget to buy enough redshirts for their kids to wear during their redshirted year. Don’t forget to stock up.

Yes. In DCPS they don't have to go along with your request if they feel it isn't appropriate.

Normally OOB siblings in K would get in at most schools.

Isn't K a mandatory grade in DC? If so, and your kid has not completed K, they cannot make you go into 1st.

Interesting. Seems unlikely that parents would make such a huge decision for a potential minor preference in high school. But DCPS could also have avoided the possibility by phrasing the preference as applying to any child that was retained in one or more grades. That seems to be more who they’re aimed at.
