The only place I ever got bedbugs was Hawaii.

Been to Paris 6 times. No bedbugs.

I can get AIDS, tuberculosis, and almost every other disease anywhere too. That doesn’t change the fact that some areas on Earth are hotspots for this diseases with higher risk. Paris is a hotbed for insecticide resistant bed bugs now. Pretending like it’s the same as everywhere else is being ignorant, especially when the national government is panicking about it.

We went but stayed with family, had warned us when we wanted to travel. Also umm from the hygiene angle, several places in Asia were the worst but Europe esp Paris…Parisians…

Sprinkle some diatomaceous earth on the crevices of the mattress and you will have ZERO bedbugs.

No, they are not resistent to insecticides. The reason that insecticides do not kill them is that they are hiding pretty well and the insecticide is not reaching them sufficiently.

NYC and DC both have widespread bed bug infestations.

Lol I got bed bugs from taking the Acela to NYC but never got them anywhere else. If it makes you feel safer to never go to Paris, OK.

You can lament bedbugs in various places all you want, but from there to spewing hate online about Parisians is not cool.

Bedbugs are a problem in all major cities in the world, because they're spread by international travel. The French government launched two plans against bedbugs in 2022 and 2023. But now some have been found in train seat upholstery, and the political opposition to Macron has seized on this news to criticize the government and make it a whole thing. It has now spilled into the international news, and will weigh on tourism, which is exactly what they wanted to happen, to put pressure on Macron and tarnish his last term in office.

In all my years of traveling back and forth to and from Paris, we've never had bedbugs, and no person I know (French or otherwise) has ever had bedbugs.
NYC is supposed to be rife with them, but we've never had problems there either.

Some French media know very well this is a manufactured panic, but they still have to report on it. Don't get caught up too.

You can get bedbugs anywhere. Truly.

People need to realize that there is a risk of getting bed bugs with any travel. After every trip, even local business, we heat treat our luggage. We immediately remove and heat treat clothes we were wearing as well. It’s simply not worth the risk not to do this.
