These kids looted because they know nothing will happen to them. And nothing will happen because the police know the courts and politicians get in the way.
It's not just Philly but most major cities including DC. Crime is exploding because the police aren't allowed to be policemen any more. If the police proactively tackle crime, they are racist, so they don't do anything.
But I'll concede the infamous comment that people voted for it rings true. You live in a big city, you vote for the Democrats, you effectively voted for this.
+1 truth well said

So we have less cops and prosecutors who now also refuse to prosecute crimes like shoplifting and trespassing in the name of social justice.
So even the people arrested tonight will be out by morning sinner they won’t get cash bail and probably get charged with a misdemeanor. So then they can do this all again next week.
Yeah, sounds like a good plan. And then when these stores close, you’ll have the. Same old people crying about how business abandoned the inner city.
Well, since Philly never defunded the police and actually increased their budget in 2022, your argument is moot.
19million dollar cut in 2020. So yeah, they did.

Think it through; was everyone going about their normal business in 2020 or were people in their homes more than usual?
And good. I hope they’re able to pick up the lot of them and throw the book at them. It’s one thing when one person shoplifts a single canister of baby formula to feed their child - still wrong but it’s defensible on a human level - but organized crime is organized crime. Throw the book at them.

The “throw the book at them’ then signing “a liberal” is a huge virtue signal on your part
The Trump administration was a time of constant looting, riots, criminal gang activities and insurrections. We all remember Trumps inability to govern the country and how the country became unsafe. Biden has made great strides in restoring lol in order but maga is actively working against this.
My. Maga is looting and burning stores?
Takes long hard look at the demographics shoplifting and looting and stealing from malls.
Those are Maga? Fancy that!
Oh, wait, you must have meant Biden voters? Now that makes sense.
You can be pretty sure these criminals are not voters at all. They want as little to do with any government office or process as possible.

It's almost as though the police union is running an extortion racket on the city.
Or it could be because of progressive morons they elect to be judges and prosecutors who let criminals out with a stern talking to after multiple crimes are committed.
What's the point of policing if you keep arresting the same one man crime waves over and over and over again yet progressive Democrats keep letting them back out on the streets due to some insanely warped idea of progressive criminal justice? They made sure as hell they don't punish for retail theft and crime, now it is a free for all looting binge, because they know if cops catch them they'll be released anyway because locking them up would be racist and oppression.
Yeah, that’s all gonna need some cites. Because every story I’ve heard about people calling the police to report crimes has the police saying “we don’t do that.” Maybe the police could start to do their jobs instead of tormenting people. Actual policing might help.
I think you’ve bought into a narrative that all police just go around tormenting people and that’s just not true. There are bad apples, yes, but it’s not all police. You are posting an emotion, not by verifiable metrics.
Additionally, why don’t you do a Ward 8 right along and 3am and have your bubble of oppression deflated a little? Being a beat cop is an incredible stressful job dealing with violent or insane people.

But they didn’t defund the police
19 million dollar cut in 2020
Cute little talking point there, but doesn't at all explain crime.
Philadelphia's 2018 police budget was $672.9M
Philadelphia's 2019 police budget was $720.4M
Philadelphia's 2020 police budget was $741.2M
...which puts a $19m cut into context as 2.5% of their budget and making a $19m cut in 2020 still higher than the police budget was in 2019 and 2018.
