Oh please. What a crock.

But it's not a crock that someone came to this land and "discovered it" even thought people already lived here?

He discovered it for the Europeans
who made up about 90% of the population here until a couple of decades ago when we decided that we should change that.

The Colombian Exchange is a really momentous change in the world, whether you think it is good or not.

Well, he didn't do that either.

But yes, Columbus's first trans-Atlantic voyage and landing in Guanahaní (Lucayan archipelago) did result in a lot of big changes in the world.

Well, those Vikings weren’t good at marketing and their settlements were temporary. He “discovered” it for all of Europe.

My school really needs it. We had last mininute vacancies and they were filled by some shockingly biased people. Why interview at a majority minority school if you dislike children of color so much?

Are you truly optimistic that this training session will change those teachers?
I suspect it's more likely to make them even more resentful via its hamfisted half-truths.

No, but it makes it so much easier to discipline or fire/reassign them.

It's ridiculous and insulting that they insist on micromanaging us so much. PD could easily be done from home via Zoom, but they trust teachers with children all day, just not left to their own devices working from home.

I know! I was hoping I could sleep in and maybe go to a yoga class but they are making me come in.

People like you ruined it for the rest of us.

I thought the afternoon is supposed to center on the same ideas. The school leadership team has to determine how that looks.
fun!

I can tell you're trolling, but nice try? Nah, most teachers would use that time productively at home to grade, finish paperwork, catch up on endless emails, etc. Instead, we are forced to sit through completely pointless "trainings" all bc they just want us in the buildings. As if we cannot be trusted to work from home. So yeah, as a former salaried employee in the corporate world, it IS insulting.

True. Therefore this is happenstance rather than a new annual thing.

It hasn't been off in previous years because the two Jewish high holy days are normally off. This year one fell on a weekend, so it didn't necessitate a day off. So the balance remains the same.
