I’m glad you convinced him to give money. It’s the best gift.

You expect people to shell out for engagement as well as cash for wedding. Ridiculous gift grabs l.

Usually people gift things from Mikasa and Lenox. They have nice stuff to give as wedding gifts.

My dead mother born in 1950 would like Mikasa and Lenox. Not me. I think of that stuff as for old women.

Don't presumer ot know what a couple wants, if they are not registered. They do not need stuff.

They don't have a registry BECAUSE they want/need cash. It's intentional.

If they wanted decorative items for their apartment they would have a registry. Do not burden this couple with things. OP has said they live in a small apartment in a big city. They do not have room for things. They're probably at the stage in life where they move frequently, maybe even yearly. They do not want things.

OP, give cash or give nothing. You can not fault the bride and groom for not having a registry, any more than you can fault the bride and groom for literally not needing anything. Most couples marry later in life, and have careers and lives before they marry - they truly don't need anything (even though "not needing anything" is a stock answer for some people). If the couple needed anything, they would register!

I swera some people hate weddings, and I honestly don't know why they bother attending.

Ugh gift cards are the worst. You have to keep track of them. When you get a bunch you can’t remember which ones have how much money and it becomes a burden.

It's tacky. They gave no registry precisely because they only want cash gifts.
