Agree. I don't text my kids during their school day unless it's an emergency and they pretty much do the same for me at my workday. Mine are really distractible, though, so even though the phones aren't supposed to be used during the school day, I didn't want to set a precedent for them to have to think that messages might be waiting for them while they're trying to focus on school.

It’s not my job to keep a teen’s phone from texting - it’s the teen’s. It’s also the teen’s job not to get distracted by it and all the other excuses on this thread. Text when you want but don’t expect an immediate reply.

It's really up to individual families. If she can manage her homework not a problem.

Not during the school day. We had a teen tutor for one child and I always texted after school. Sometimes kids forget to turn off their phone sounds or get distracted when they get texts because they think it's an emergency

If my son texts me, I will respond because I know he is at lunch or in a class where they have free time and can text. Otherwise, I would only text in a true emergency/major change of plans.

Mom of dd who babysat a ton - it's fine to send the text any time, just don't expect an immediate reply back during the day. My dd mostly babysat in neighborhood and could walk so may depend on situation but I was totally fine with weeknight sitting until 10 or 10:30, and weekend till whenever (she was usually back no later than 12:30 and most often much earlier)

10 pm is fine. I’m ok with midnight or even later on weekends.

Considering phones are supposed to be off, put away, kept in lockers, etc. I don’t see the big deal.

I have a HS senior babysitter. I text her during the day. She gets back to me when she can.
