Most schools chose not to pilot one of the new programs because they didn't want to try and learn it only to be told MCPS picked the other one. So in the meantime, Benchmark is the default curriculum available, along with ELC for some classes. Schools do NOT have to use Benchmark to teach reading, just make sure they cover the required curriculum indicators, and give the required assessments.

Along with RGR...try and keep up.
You do realize that Benchmark sucks not just because of the phonics, right? MCPS needs a content-rich curriculum. There are much better options.
Like what? If there were so many better options why doesn’t MCPS pick those?

Content rich how? Benchmark has leveled readers, books for read aloud that schools can even get for groups of students, novel studies, text for kids to write in to practice skills. How much more content do they need?
Compare it with what the Core Knowledge foundation offers—we have been supplementing with their free curriculum for years so that our kids actually develop the background knowledge they need to succeed. That is the type of curriculum MCPS should be adopting.
